like pretty much everything else I've ever attempted,
this started out as one thing, and evolved into another.
daniel of 23-yrs, wait-listed in California's central valley. makes music with a revolving (not always revolting) group of noisemakers, frequently called Troubled By Insects--this is about those sounds and noise; also, infrequently related visuals, moving images, and words...and all sorts of nonsense otherwise...web-accoutrements, et cetera, whatever, amen. for the Internet is such an interesting and magical place.

Jack Rose “Kensington Blues”

Guitarist Jack Rose died today, age 38, of a heart attack.
I had the phenomenal opportunity to see Jack Rose perform about two years ago, and it was a tremendously inspiring, nearly spiritual experience. To hear one man with one guitar or dobro (self-taught no less), evoke so much emotion and soul from the instrument was an evening I will never forget.
I’m listening to his album Kensington Blues as I write this.and my heart is heavy something awful.

THE TWO-HEADED BOY MIXTAPE; 2009

#07 Beep Beep  “Return To Me”

Daniel:

That Beep Beep would compose something not short of a lullaby [when this is a fair example of their previous main sound] is fascinating in itself, but the end result is both hypnotic and gorgeous.

THE TWO-HEADED BOY MIXTAPE; 2009

#08 The Chariot  “Impress.”

Daniel:

All things perceptively “lyrical” (that is to say, “screaming” [and don’t you dare say I didn’t warn you, hmmkay]) end 30 seconds into this track, one of the most fascinating on The Chariot’s recent album Wars and Rumors of Wars. A truly captivating two-note guitar riff carries the song to completion, at once signaling a vicious end and setting up for another shattering track.

#09 Future of the Left “Lapsed Catholics”

Daniel:

If you know Future of the Left, you probably know McLusky, and, along those lines, you know that an acoustic guitar is… well, an odd concept. Nothing like Andy “Falco” Falkous musing on shitty films over the plucky riff before the song, well, ends up where it should, but making it one of the best surprises of FotL’s 2009 offering Travels With Myself And Others.

Also, Coke Machine Glow panned this album, and I think specifically this song, making a joke about how this was FotL’s bid to become like Vertical Horizon… I thought it was just the reviewer being an asshat, until I went back and re-listened to “Everything You Want.” I guess those acoustic riffs could be distant cousins. So….
