Never Meant

Last night I was laying in my bed and listening to music, trying to fall asleep like every other night. “Never Meant” by American Football came on shuffle. This is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands, but last night it just sounded… different. Right when Mike Kinsella starting singing those opening lines.. “Let’s just forget…” I sat up in my bed and just started listening. For some reason it sounded different to me but in a really good way. I’ve always loved this song but I’ve never felt as strongly about it as I did last night for whatever reason. It was weird and extraordinary at the same time, I loved feeling that way. That song’s been stuck in my head all day. It still sounds unusually spectacular to me. It may sound weird but I can’t stop thinking about the way that song just hit me last night. I love it.

one of these days

one of these days, i’ll make some money and buy myself those things that i want. acrylic paints, acoustic guitar strings, a new bicycle seat for my ride over to your house each night. one of these days, i’ll get a real job. one that actually pays, like my dad had. and you know my father, the bartender. he used to wear a suit to work before he hit the drink. the old man, he used to do a lot of things. one of these days i’ll give up and give into the man.

Owen - “Places To Go”

Words cannot express my love for this man, his music, and more specifically, this song.

I’ve a picture of you:
A parisian street
Early morning
Late spring
And I know what you were thinking
You were taking a break from life
You were traveling light
(A pair of walking shoes and a sweater)
You were where you were
When you pictured where you’d be:
Anywhere but home

Well, it’s your last chance to change things

I know you’ve been getting by alright
And alright’s okay from day to day
But for the rest of your life?

An honest face like that
You just can’t take back that easy
An honest face like that
I just can’t forget too easy
(God knows I’m trying…)

American Football - American Football
This is without a doubt my favorite emo record of all time. 9 songs and 41 minutes of sheer brilliance. Mike Kinsella is my favorite musician ever and this album is why. Listen to it if you haven’t. You really, really do not know what you’re missing. “Never Meant” is the best emo song ever. Listen. To. It.
